Wildwood first aid salve (extra strength)
Perhaps there is nothing more magical to me in the plant human connection as their is the relationship between tree resin, it’s function for the their healing and the direct correlation in our own healing.
Tree, resin also known as pitch, is created by conifer trees, in response to injury. Often confused with sap, the two serve entirely different functions for the tree. You can view resin like you would our own white blood cells, going to work at a moments notice when the skin of the tree becomes compromised. Full of antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties, tree resin, which is stored in pockets throughout conifers, oozes to the site of a wound to help seal and heal before fungus, microbes, or other pathogens set in.
What’s remarkable is how it works in the same way with our body. You can actually use resin directly in an open wound to help seal it, and begin to fight infection immediately. It’s one of the most valuable and important backwoods medicines in my opinion.
I’ve been making some variation of this salve for countless years, and it’s an absolute household staple. Not only for my family, but also my animals. I combine it with plantain and calendula for extra potent healing. Use in replacement of any first aid ointment.
Wild Douglas’s fir resin, wild plantain, garden grown calendula infused into cold pressed organic avocado and olive oil, local beeswax
